My wife and I took my daughter tubing at a local ski hill this weekend. Good times had by all. When I took off my snow boots (that had been sitting on the garage steps), I was in a hurry but immediately smelled a mix of rotten fish and roadkill sprayed with vinegar.
I figured my wool socks just smelled really bad and tossed them in the back. After 5 minutes, we had to roll down the windows for the rest of the hour ride home.
When we got home I grabbed a flashlight and looked.
I walked around for 3 hours with my heel grinding a rancid mouse into the liner of my boot.
My heel smelled so bad I had to soak it in a mixture of baking soda, peroxide and dawn for 2 hours before the smell got better.
Fucking mice. To answer your question, I was wearing really thick wool socks that bunch up. Yes I felt something but I figured it was just my sock. I mean after a few steps I thought “hey my sock doesn’t feel bunchy anymore, that’s great.”

At least it wasn’t a black widow in your boot

The worst room mate I ever had, had feet that smelled like that without dead mice in his boots.

Be aware, PETA might try to kill you for hurting such a majestic creature.

Oh. My. God.
That is gross and also extremely unlikely. I have skied for years...I’ve never even heard of that.

Not sure which would be worse. Black widow would likely be crushed before it knew was was going on - they generally aren’t that aggressive. But if it did get you that would really suck. I’ve been lucky enough to have always found them before they’ve gotten me. They seem to prefer baseball hats to boots. Scorpions on the other hand like to hide in boots and will definitely sting you. After it happens once you tend to check your boots. Especially in summer. Just life in South Texas. We also have tarantulas living in our back yard.
